Recording Permissions

If recording cannot start, the issue is usually a missing operating system permission. Wayaframe includes a step-by-step permission setup that walks you through granting the required access before recording begins.

What permissions are needed

Wayaframe checks three permissions through the native operating system (not the browser):

  • Screen recording: permission to capture your screen.
  • Microphone: permission to record audio input.
  • Camera: permission to capture video from your webcam.

Each permission shows its current status as you step through the setup. Possible states are:

  • Not determined: the permission has not been requested yet.
  • Granted: access is allowed.
  • Denied: access was previously blocked. You will need to enable it in your system settings.
  • Unavailable: the hardware was not detected (for example, no microphone or camera is connected).

How the setup works

  1. The permission setup opens and highlights the first permission that needs attention.
  2. For microphone and camera, Wayaframe requests access directly from the operating system. A system prompt will ask you to allow access.
  3. For screen recording on macOS, Wayaframe opens your system settings so you can grant access manually.
  4. After you return from system settings, the setup automatically detects the updated permission status and moves to the next step.
  5. Once all required permissions are granted, you can continue into recording.

macOS

macOS requires explicit permission for screen capture. You need to grant Wayaframe access in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording. You may need to add the app to the list manually and restart Wayaframe for the change to take effect.

Microphone and camera permissions are requested through native system prompts the first time you use them. If you previously denied access, you can re-enable it in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone or Camera.

Windows

Windows does not require a separate screen recording permission, so screen capture works without any setup. Microphone and camera permissions follow the Windows privacy settings under Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone or Camera. The first time you record, Wayaframe shows a brief setup acknowledgment step.

If permissions still fail

If the permission status does not update after granting access:

  • Double-check the permission in your operating system settings.
  • Restart the app. This is sometimes required on macOS after granting screen recording access.
  • Make sure no other application is exclusively using the microphone or camera.
  • Confirm the hardware is connected and recognized by your operating system.

If the problem continues after all permissions look correct, report it through the feedback flow and note which specific permission failed and which operating system you are using.
